South Street is for all of us. Let's plan its future together.
Who is South Street for? Is it a place for nearby neighborhood residents or for the whole city? A tourist destination or a local hang? Is it for artsy eccentrics, for partying students, or for families? The answer of course, is "yes": South Street—like ogres and onions in a famed simile coined by noted 21st century philosopher, Shrek—contains layers. Layers of history, layers of culture, layers of economy, layers of community. It's not just one thing, for one group of people. That's what makes it special. South Street is for all of us.
As we plan for the future of South Street in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, and as we experiment with new approaches to public space, like "open streets" pedestrian-only weekends, we at the South Street Headhouse District want to involve our stakeholders in as many ways as possible, in policy or in specific projects.
This platform helps us to do this. Throughout open streets weekends, we'll be engaging residents, visitors, and businesses to gather input that will inform future projects. We'll also be posting specific prompts here on the Citizenlab platform. As a stakeholder, you can leave an idea, make a contribution, leave a comment or ask a question in response to these prompts at any time.
