Discussion: Recommendations for South Street as a Public Space

From "Mapping memories: Love Letters to South Street"

Go to the project

Recommend future improvements to South Street!

  • We will host a live online dialogue-based co-creation event that will also be recorded. It will take place Monday August 23rd, 1 - 3 pm.
  • The purpose of this session will be

(1) to share out the memory map and collectively take in the human experiences of how and why we saw people falling in love with South Street (from the Love Letters)

(2) to collect your recommendations for improving South Street by asking the question “now that we’ve documented what you love about South Street, how might we create more moments like these through the reimagining of streets as public spaces?”

  • In addition to the event, this question will also be posed online in order to facilitate further conversation. Proposals for creating more moments to fall in love with South Street via open streets will be open for community idea submissions through September 13th.

Reporting out and Prioritizing Recommendations

We will collate the various ideas and ask the public to help prioritize ideas to put forward. This will then feed into a final report of approximately 5-10 key recommendations to be formally presented to the SSHD related to the reimagining of streets as public spaces. In addition, we will share a collation of insights gathered during the project, selected data on the preliminary impact of streets as public spaces, and its potential to reinvigorate South Street.

Event date: August 23rd, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
