To Guacamole and Trixie L’mour and the 2001 Mardi Gras “fun”

From "Mapping memories: Love Letters to South Street"

Go to the project

I’ll always remember having the “cool” apt on South Street. People would stop by all the time. The throwing of the keys down from the 3rd floor on top of Trixie L’Mour was a standard ritual. Many late nights at Cheers To You, Manny Browns or Abilene turned into sessions at the apt afterwards. The apt was soooo cool, until Mardi Gras 2001. Friends and I were threatened and had bottles thrown at my windows for several minutes. It wasn’t long after that the cops rolled up from 4th street with Riot gear and horses followed bar motorcycles and cars. It was a scary scene to watch grown people square up and throw down. MANY TIMES. I don’t think anyone who was there at the time will ever forget it. I love that block btwn 4th and 5th forever. From Pomodoro’s Stromboli’s to Johnny Rocket’s grease burgers to Gus’ hot water dogs with kraut! XOXO
