Mapping memories: Love Letters to South Street
As the South Street Headhouse District recovers from Covid-19 and experiments with new approaches to public space via "open streets", we want to help ensure that South Street's evolution builds off of what makes it a great public space for the communities that use it. That's why we're asking for your help in figuring out the human side of what makes South Street, well, South Street—so that together we can plan and implement projects that support that identity while reimagining the street as public space for people.
To do that, we're starting from a place of love by documenting the unique experiences that made you fall in love with South Street.
We'll use your "love letters" to South Street to map memories and tease out shared experiences that will serve as a digital and place-based monument to South Street's past, while also acting as a prompt for you and other members of the community to generate project ideas and recommendations for how to reimagine South Street itself as a public space for people (not just cars) in the future with concrete proposals and recommendations for the Business Improvement District (BID) to consider.
Finally, we'll want your help discussing, voting on, and ultimately selecting which of these ideas the South Street Headhouse District should adopt and incorporate, or, if feasible, even implement in the short term. All this will be synthesized into a report and tactical action plan with project recommendations presented to the public, and to the District.
Follow the different phases of this project below.

Recommendations for streets as lovable public space
More South Street for people means more to love
Now that we've heard what you love about South Street and how you propose to make South Street's public spaces, including its streets, more loveable, we're synthesizing what we've heard into a formal set of actions and recommendations.
The final report, including recommendations, a tactical action plan and case study will be published here once completed.
